The Art of coaching

Philosophy:
For over 20 years I practiced the beautiful sport of triathlon. During this very long career I was lucky enough to be able to train with one of the best coaches in the world and learn from them. In this time, as a professional sports man, the greatest lesson was that effective planing and control of the training program is only possible with current lactate numbers which enable athletes to reach the optimum performance.

It is due to these many years of experience in training to lactate thresholds and the knowledge I obtained throught the different coaches that I want to give to other athletes now. Hereby, it is very important to me that I build up the performance of my athletes in a safe and careful way which can sometime take slightly longer than usual but allows all my athletes to get healthy, without injuries and they are successful at every race throughout the season.

Nessesary requirement for a coaching relationship is that I meet my athlete personally to find out the current level of performance in every single discipline, to plan their aims together and to get details about the time constraints and budget of the athlete.

Generell process:
At the beginning of the season I carry out a swim analysis and lactate test on the bike and in the run to measure the lactate and heart rate numbers, the speeds and watts to get the current level of performance and to find out which training intensities and amounts of milage for the single athletes are the most important. These tests are repeated every few months to have current numbers and objective facts.

The creation of the training plans follows the below process: My athletes send me their available times of the coming week depending on work, travel, family etc at the weekend. After I have analysed the previous weeks statistics using Garmin Connect for example and with the athletes feedback I then send the athlete a detailed training schedule for the coming week. The training scedule is only for one week because I always want to adapt the schedule to the current weather, the athletes condition and results of the previous week. If there is any change in the time budget, the athletes condition or weather the scedule will be adapted during the week. If the situation requires daily updates due to sickness, soreness in the muscles or stress in job/private life I send my athletes the schedule day by day. The communication is via email, whats app, messenger or phone.

Single discipline coaching

Achieving ambitious goals, continuous training and communication that works 100%. This is what characterises my collaboration with Stephan. His well-founded knowledge mixed with his great experience keeps surprising me again and again as to how much power is in my body. Since I have been training with Stephan I have had no health problems anymore such as knee pain etc, although the scopes have become much higher. In 2017 I achieved my goals so far 5:38 at the IRONMAN 70.3. and a half marathon under 2h. Next year we will go together to the project IRONMAN Hamburg and the bike marathon Trondheim-Oslo - I wonder how he will prepare me for training to bring me back with a TOP time at the finish line.
